FAQ

How do I play online?

Online matches use Apple's Game Center. Sign in to Game Center in the iOS Settings app, then tap Online Match on the main menu and choose Find Match. Matches are turn-based — you'll be notified when it's your move.

What does Coach mode do?

Turn it on in Settings and ShinShogi warns you when a move looks like a blunder, with a one-tap takeback. After any game, Analyze finds your blunders and missed mates — and turns each missed mate into a puzzle you can solve.

Can I import or export games?

Yes. Share any game as KIF (the standard Japanese game-record format) or plain text from the share button in a game. Import a .kif file from Learn ▸ Model Games ▸ Import. Positions can also be shared via standard SFEN notation.

What is spaced-repetition review?

Tsume (mate) puzzles you miss are scheduled to come back soon; ones you solve get spaced further out — like flashcards. Find your due puzzles under Learn ▸ Review.

What is Minishogi?

A 5×5 variant with one pawn per side, no knights or lances, and a single-rank promotion zone — fast, sharp games. Find it under Play ▸ Minishogi.

What does ShinShogi Pro include?

A one-time unlock that adds Minishogi, the Walnut and Slate board themes, and the full mate-in-3 / mate-in-5 tactics and endgame-drill library. Use Restore Purchases in Settings if you reinstall.

Does the app need an account or internet?

No account, ever. Everything except online matches works fully offline. Online play signs in through Game Center, handled by Apple.

Privacy Policy

ShinShogi collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party SDKs. Your games, puzzle progress, and settings are stored only on your device.

Online matches are provided by Apple's Game Center: your Game Center identity and match data are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy; ShinShogi does not collect, store, or transmit that information to any server of its own.

Purchases are processed by the App Store; we never see your payment details.
